The Commission has developed a mission statement to focus the Commission’s work, a vision statement to show what achievement of the mission will look like, and a statement of core values to guide the Commission as it carries out its duties.
The Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government’s mission is to exemplify the highest ethical standards and restore public trust in government through education, compliance, and vigorous enforcement of the state’s ethics and lobbying laws.
The Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government’s vision is for all New Yorkers to trust that state government is acting in the public’s best interest and for public officials to exemplify the highest ethical standards.
The Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government has identified six key values to help guide its work:
Integrity: Always act in accordance with the best interests of New York residents.
Trustworthiness: Demonstrate the accuracy and reliability of Commission statements and pronouncements through actions.
Transparency: Provide as much public access as possible to information and data held by the Commission and disclose Commission activities to the greatest extent allowed by law.
Independence: Accountable only to the people of the state of New York, exercise best judgment in deciding matters before the Commission based solely upon the facts and applicable law.
Responsibility: To act with the highest moral, legal, and ethical standards in carrying out the work of the Commission.
Confidentiality: Maintain the privacy of all confidential matters presented to and considered by the Commission.
